Mary Doggins took a genuine interest in my situation and tirelessly supported me and Leo. When I felt like giving up (ie: when I'd try to take Leo on a walk alone and he'd pull me over and practially drag me across the street) I'd call or text my support system and they would reassure me that things would improve. Which they did. It was and is hard work and I now realize that having and training a dog requires constant vigilance, and no avoidance. The team has supported me and Leo is incomparably improved. He now plays with other dogs, goes to the dog park (which I previously thought would be impossible), goes on play dates and even has sleepovers with Melissa or Sara and their dogs whenever I need to go out of town. Sara has been great for Doje & Bella, our 2 Chihuahuas. They love their walks with her, and we noticed an instant positive change in their behavior when she started walking them. Melissa understood that Leo was exhibiting fear based aggression based on his youth (he was a rescue who had recently been attacked by two dogs in our neighborhood) and she was firm and loving with both him and me. She started taking him on walks and he responded to her well. She also took the time and interest in teaching me to be the alpha (which was a much more difficult task than teaching the dog to calm down). Leo really obviously felt safe in her presence. Melissa's main task, it turns out, was to calm my own anxieties and teach me that I am able to control my dog. We began to do hikes and walks together with her doing the 'work' and my watching and learning. Leo was improving and seemed a lot happier at home.
